The Test Scoring Department at the Central New York Regional Information Center provides fifty public school districts and approximately thirty non-public school districts with testing services for New York State Assessments.

The CNYRIC Test Scoring Department is also the hub for designing the New York State 3-8 answer sheets and supporting scanning applications for Regional Information Centers around New York State.

At the elementary level, testing services include providing districts with preprinted answer sheets, rosters,
vendor labels (where applicable), and instructions. Assessments include ELA, Math, Science, NYSESLAT and NYSITELL. All processing takes place in a highly secured area. Upon completion, test data is sent to New York State Department of Education for state reporting. Test results are exported and electronically stored for reporting and accountability purposes. Reports and data are then available to districts via COGNOS.

During the months of January, June and August, New York State Regents are administered. The Test Scoring Department provides pre-printed answer sheets and instructions. Processing can occur either in district, which is known as Remote Scoring, or at the RIC with the Test Scoring team, known as Scan While You Wait. Districts can opt to have their finalized Regents exam results imported to their Student Management System. These results are also stored within an online application called Assessment Scoring and Analysis Program (ASAP), which allows districts to view Item Analysis reports for current and past years of Regents administrations. Upon completion, test data is sent to the New York State Department of Education for state reporting. Test results are exported and electronically stored for reporting and accountability purposes.

The CNYRIC Test Scoring Department provides phone support to districts who administer NYS ELA and/or Math assessments using Computer Based Testing (CBT). The department also serves as a liaison between districts and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) regarding training and support for CBT.

We in the Test Scoring Department at the CNYRIC encourage districts to let us be the first point of contact should assistance be needed. We pride ourselves on our customer service.

This test is used to assess the English language proficiency of new entrants whose home language is a language other than English, as indicated on their Home Language Questionnaire. It is used to determine whether the student needs Bilingual Education and/or English as a New Language (ENL) services.

Any student who is administered the NYSITELL will receive a level of proficiency. This level will assist the district in providing needed ESL services.
